Tenerife, Canary Islands: The Raw, the Ragged and the Beautiful

Grand Surf Hostel
Separated between the bare, sandy stretch of the South and the luscious vineyards and sculptural flora of Teide, Tenerife beams with beauty that is largely manmade - but there is a primitive, archetypal magic that runs through this land's blood.

The laid back surf centers of the buzzing El Medano, the vertiginous road that welcomes dizzy visitors into the arms of scenic Masca, the desolate moonscape of the tallest mountain in Spain, the enigmatic and majestic Teide, share a hypnotic charm.

The tourists and the hotel complexes, the cars and the busy highways at times become too much - but you can count on a peaceful hideaway buried in golden sand always hanging around the corner...

Sountrack: Twillight, The Score by Carter Burwell - an ode to road-tripping in the heart of Teide.
